Your hosting welcome email gives you a cPanel username and password. From there, setting up email takes three steps: log in to cPanel, create your email address, then add it to your phone or computer. This page walks you through each one and links to the detailed guide for every device.

Before you start

  • Your welcome email. It has your cPanel username, your cPanel password and the cPanel address, which looks like https://yourbusiness.co.za:2083.
  • Your domain pointing to us. If you registered a new domain or moved one to Trinico Cloud, email only starts working once the domain is live, which can take up to 48 hours.
  • About 15 minutes for your first address and your first device.

Step 1: log in to cPanel

You can get in two ways. Use whichever is easier.

  • From your client area. Log in to your Trinico Cloud client area, open Services, choose your hosting, then click Log in to cPanel. No second password needed.
  • Directly. Type the cPanel address from your welcome email into your browser, for example https://yourbusiness.co.za:2083 or https://yourbusiness.co.za/cpanel, then enter the cPanel username and password from the same email.

This short video from cPanel shows you around the main screen, so you know where things are.

Step 2: create your email address

In cPanel, go to the Email section and click Email Accounts, then Create. Choose the name before the @ (for example info or sales), set a password and click Create. The full walkthrough, with cPanel's own video, is here: How to create an email address in cPanel.

Step 3: choose where you read your email

Pick the guide for the device you use. You can use more than one; they all stay in step because they use IMAP.

The settings, if an app asks for them

Most apps only need your email address and password. If one asks for more, these are the settings:

Email address and usernameyour full email address, for example info@yourbusiness.co.za
Passwordthe password of this email address (not your cPanel password)
Account typeIMAP
Incoming servermail.yourbusiness.co.za
Incoming port and security993, SSL/TLS
Outgoing server (SMTP)mail.yourbusiness.co.za
Outgoing port and security465, SSL/TLS
Outgoing server needs to sign inYes, with the same email address and password

Swap in your own domain. Wherever you see yourbusiness.co.za, use the part of your email address after the @. If your address is sales@smithplumbing.co.za, your server is mail.smithplumbing.co.za.

You can also see the settings for any address in cPanel: go to Email Accounts and click Connect Devices next to it.

Two passwords, and which one goes where

This is the one that catches most people.

  • Your cPanel password came in your hosting welcome email. It opens cPanel, where you manage your email addresses and website.
  • Your email password is the one you chose when you created the email address in cPanel. This is the one Outlook, your phone and webmail ask for.

If you have forgotten an email password, you cannot look it up. Set a new one in cPanel: go to Email Accounts, click Manage next to the address, type a new password under Security and save. Then update it on every phone and computer that uses that address, or the old one keeps trying and the server blocks it for a while (what that block means).
