How to create an email address in cPanel

You create your business email addresses yourself in cPanel, under Email Accounts. Each one takes about two minutes. Once the address exists, you add it to Outlook, your phone or webmail using the password you set here.

Create the address

1. Log in to cPanel. From your client area, open Services, choose your hosting and click Log in to cPanel. Or use the cPanel address and login in your hosting welcome email.
2. Open Email Accounts. Scroll to the Email section and click Email Accounts.
3. Click Create.
4. Pick the domain. If you have more than one domain on your hosting, choose the right one from the Domain menu. With one domain, this menu does not show.
5. Type the username. This is the part before the @, for example info, accounts or thabo. Keep it short and easy to say over the phone.
6. Set the password. Choose Set password now and type one, or click Generate to have cPanel make a strong one. Write it down or save it in your password manager now. You will need it on every device.
7. Leave Storage Space as it is unless you know you need something different.
8. Click Create. You are taken back to the list, and your new address is on it.

Check that it works

Next to your new address in Email Accounts, click Check Email. Webmail opens in your browser, logged in to that address. Send yourself a test message from another address, like your personal email, and make sure it arrives.

Click Connect Devices next to the address. cPanel shows the exact settings for that address, and for iPhone, iPad and Mac it also offers a setup file you can download that fills in most of the settings for you. Then follow the guide for your device:

• iPhone, iPad or Android phone
• New Outlook on Windows 11 or classic Outlook
• Apple Mail on a Mac
• Webmail in any browser

Two passwords, and which one goes where

This is the one that catches most people.

• Your cPanel password came in your hosting welcome email. It opens cPanel, where you manage your email addresses and website.
• Your email password is the one you chose when you created the email address in cPanel. This is the one Outlook, your phone and webmail ask for.

If you have forgotten an email password, you cannot look it up. Set a new one in cPanel: go to Email Accounts, click Manage next to the address, type a new password under Security and save. Then update it on every phone and computer that uses that address, or the old one keeps trying and the server blocks it for a while (what that block means).
