Classic Outlook (the standalone Outlook app from Office 2016, 2019, 2021 or Microsoft 365) uses a slightly different setup wizard from the new Outlook. The settings are the same; only the user interface differs.
What you need before you start
- Your full e-mail address.
- Your mailbox password (from cPanel).
- 5 minutes.
Step-by-step
- Open Outlook. Go to File → Add Account.
- Enter your full e-mail address. Click Advanced options, then tick Let me set up my account manually. Click Connect.
- Choose IMAP.
- Fill in the server settings:
- Incoming server:
mail.yourdomain.co.za - Incoming port:
993 - Encryption method: SSL/TLS
- Outgoing server:
mail.yourdomain.co.za - Outgoing port:
465 - Outgoing encryption: SSL/TLS
- Incoming server:
- Click Next, then enter your mailbox password.
- Outlook will test the connection and complete the setup. Click Done.
Should I pick POP or IMAP?
Pick IMAP unless you have a strong reason not to. IMAP keeps your mail on the server so all devices show the same folders, sent items and read/unread state. POP downloads each message to that one device and (by default) deletes the server copy - which means a lost laptop = lost e-mail.
