How to download the free Outlook app on your PC, Mac or phone
On this page
Outlook is a free download from Microsoft for a Windows PC, a Mac, an iPhone or iPad, and an Android phone. It works with the email addresses you create in cPanel. Once Outlook is installed, you add your address as an IMAP account using the address, its password and the settings further down this page.
Already have Outlook through Office or Microsoft 365? There is nothing to download. Go straight to the classic Outlook guide.
On a Windows PC
The free Outlook for Windows is called the new Outlook. It runs on Windows 11 and on Windows 10 (version 1809 or later).
- Check whether you already have it. Click Start and type Outlook. If Outlook appears in the list, open it and skip to step 5.
- Open the Microsoft Store. Click Start, type Microsoft Store and open it.
- Search for Outlook and choose the app published by Microsoft Corporation.
- Click Get. Windows downloads and installs it.
- Add your email address by following our new Outlook guide.
On a Mac
- Open the App Store on your Mac.
- Search for Microsoft Outlook and check that the publisher is Microsoft Corporation.
- Click Get, then Install.
- Open Outlook from your Applications folder or Launchpad.
- Type your full email address when Outlook asks you to add an account, and click Continue.
- Choose IMAP if Outlook asks what kind of account it is, then fill in the password and the settings from the table below.
The free Mac version shows adverts. If the App Store says your Mac is too old for it, use Apple Mail instead: How to set up your Trinico Cloud e-mail on Apple Mail.
On an iPhone or iPad
- Open the App Store, search for Microsoft Outlook and tap Get. Check that the publisher is Microsoft Corporation.
- Open Outlook. If it asks you to add an account straight away, go to step 3. Otherwise tap Settings, then Accounts, Add Account and Email Account.
- Type your full email address and tap Add Account.
- Choose IMAP when Outlook asks for your email provider. If it picks a provider for you, tap Not a ... account in the top right corner, then choose IMAP.
- Turn on Use Advanced Settings, fill in the password and the settings from the table below, and tap Sign In.
On an Android phone
- Open the Google Play Store, search for Microsoft Outlook and tap Install. Check that the publisher is Microsoft Corporation.
- Open Outlook. If it asks you to add an account straight away, go to step 3. Otherwise tap Settings, then Add Account and Add Email Account.
- Type your full email address and tap Continue.
- Choose IMAP.
- Turn on Advanced settings, fill in the password and the settings from the table below, and confirm.
On a phone, the Outlook app brings in your email only. Calendars and contacts do not sync with an IMAP address. If your phone is too old for the Outlook app, use its built-in mail app instead: How to set up your e-mail on iPhone or Android.
The settings
| Email address and username | your full email address, for example info@yourbusiness.co.za |
|---|---|
| Password | the password of this email address (not your cPanel password) |
| Account type | IMAP |
| Incoming server | mail.yourbusiness.co.za |
| Incoming port and security | 993, SSL/TLS |
| Outgoing server (SMTP) | mail.yourbusiness.co.za |
| Outgoing port and security | 465, SSL/TLS |
| Outgoing server needs to sign in | Yes, with the same email address and password |
Swap in your own domain. Wherever you see yourbusiness.co.za, use the part of your email address after the @. If your address is sales@smithplumbing.co.za, your server is mail.smithplumbing.co.za.
No box for the port? Type the port after the server name with a colon, for example mail.yourbusiness.co.za:993 for incoming mail and mail.yourbusiness.co.za:465 for outgoing mail.
If it does not connect
- Check the server name. It starts with mail. and has no www in front of it.
- Check the password. It is the password of the email address, not your cPanel password. Reset it in cPanel if you are not sure. Too many wrong tries block your connection for a while (what that means).
- Test in webmail. If you can log in to webmail with the same address and password, the address is fine and the problem is in Outlook's settings.
