Microsoft 365 first-time setup

When you order Microsoft 365 from Trinico Cloud, we provision the licence on your domain within minutes and send a welcome e-mail with login details. This guide walks you through what to do once you receive that e-mail.

Step-by-step

  1. Open the welcome e-mail from Trinico Cloud. It contains your full mailbox address (e.g. you@yourdomain.co.za) and a temporary password.
  2. Go to login.microsoftonline.com and sign in using the temporary password.
  3. Microsoft will force a password change on first login. Choose a strong password (we recommend a password manager).
  4. Microsoft prompts you to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Do this now - it takes 60 seconds and stops 99% of account compromises. We recommend the Microsoft Authenticator app.
  5. You land on the Microsoft 365 home page. Click the Outlook tile to open webmail. Your mailbox is empty (it is brand new) and ready to use.

Installing the Office desktop apps

Most Microsoft 365 plans include the Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook desktop apps for up to 5 devices.

  1. From the Microsoft 365 home page, click Install apps top-right.
  2. Choose Microsoft 365 apps. The installer downloads (about 4 GB).
  3. Run the installer. When you open Word for the first time, sign in with the same e-mail address you used for webmail.

Setting up Outlook desktop

The Outlook installation walks you through adding your mailbox automatically - just type your e-mail address when prompted. Microsoft 365 mailboxes use Microsoft's Exchange protocol, so you do NOT need the IMAP setup steps that apply to cPanel mailboxes.

Setting up your phone

  1. Install the official Outlook app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android).
  2. Sign in with your full e-mail address and Microsoft 365 password. The app handles the rest.
