Choosing and customising a Sitejet template

The template you pick decides the layout of your website, so choose the one whose shape is closest to what you need. The colours, fonts, words and pictures are easy to change afterwards in Sitejet Builder. This page covers how to choose, the first five things to change, and how saving and backups work.

How to choose a template

• Choose on layout, not colour. Colours and photos change in minutes. Moving the whole structure of a page around takes much longer.
• Think about the pages you need. Most small businesses need a home page, an about page, a services page and a contact page. A template that already has sections for those saves you work.
• Preview a few before you decide, and look at each one on a phone-sized screen too. Most of your visitors will see it on a phone.

The first five things to change

1. Your logo. Open More at the top of the editor and choose Website Settings. That changes the logo across the whole site. You can add a favicon (the small icon in the browser tab) there too.
2. Your colours, fonts and buttons. Click Design in the top menu. These settings apply to the whole website, so the look stays the same on every page.
3. The top of the home page. Click the big picture and the headline and replace them with a photo of your own business and one clear sentence about what you do.
4. Every bit of sample text. Click any text and type over it. Use Pages in the top menu to go through every page, and delete the pages you do not need.
5. Your contact details. Check your phone number, email address and physical address in the footer and on the contact page.

Check it on every screen size

In the middle of the top bar you can switch between desktop, tablet and mobile views. The eye icon shows a preview of your changes. Check the mobile view of every page before you publish.

Saving, publishing and undoing

• Save often. The save icon at the top turns orange when you have unsaved changes.
• Once your site is published, Save means live. Every save goes straight to your live website, so preview first.
• Undo with the left arrow at the top, or Ctrl and Z on your keyboard.
• Backups: open the menu at the top left (the three lines) and choose Backups. Sitejet saves a copy every few minutes while you work, and you can make your own backup before a big change.
