If your domain is currently registered with another provider, moving it across to Trinico Cloud takes about 5 to 7 days for most TLDs and only a few minutes of work on your side. Transfers do not interrupt your website or e-mail, as long as you do not change the DNS records during the transfer window.
Before you start
- The domain must be older than 60 days (ICANN rule for gTLDs - .za domains have no waiting period).
- The WHOIS contact e-mail address must be working - the registry sends an authorisation e-mail to it.
- The domain must be unlocked at the current registrar. Look for "transfer lock", "registrar lock" or "EPP lock" in your old control panel and switch it off.
- You need an EPP/Auth code from your current registrar (also called a transfer code or secret). For .co.za this is automatic - we request it for you.
The transfer process
- Start the transfer on our site by entering your domain name and the EPP code.
- Pay the transfer fee. For most TLDs this extends your domain by one year, so you do not lose any registration time.
- Approve the transfer e-mail that the losing registrar sends to your contact address. .co.za approvals happen via the .co.za control panel.
- The registry pushes the domain to us. You will get a confirmation e-mail when complete.
What about my website and e-mail?
If you keep your existing nameservers (or hosting) where they are during the transfer, nothing breaks. The domain simply changes ownership at the registry. Once the transfer is done you can decide whether to migrate hosting too - we can handle the migration for free if you ask us to.
